Timothy (TurboTax) Geithner and Tom Daschle both seem to be a part of President Obama’s Brain Trust. Our new Treasury Secretary and Health and Human Services Secretary both seem to have a bit of difficulty with paying their taxes.

Geithner has a good excuse though, that Turbo Tax from Quicken, man that is some complex software to master. Intuit estimates only 20 million tax returns are prepared with their software annually, so it it obviously not a user friendly program.

The thing to remember though is that these mistakes were not intentional and they are truly sorry for them (or at least that they were caught), and it will never happen again. Since we can surely take them at their word, we can also feel confident they have been sworn in to their respective cabinet posts.

That brings to mind something else though. Officials from The Peanut Corporation of America are truly sorry for the Salmonella outbreak traced back to their plant in Lynchburg, GA (or at least that they were caught). Certainly we should be able to give them the same breaks we are giving to Daschle and Geithner, right?

And while we are at it, what about that guy who inadvertantly pulled a gun and robbed the clerk at the local convenience store? He’s sorry too. There was no malice intended, the clerk just had more money than he did and he wanted it.

No, it seems that it is just Anarchy for the Upper Class and do as I say, not as I do.

Republicans are bummed out that the Democratic party is in control. If they want to, the Democrats can push through any piece of legislation they desire without anything more than vocal protests. President Obama has made it clear during his first week in office that it was going to be his way or the highway, when he told Republican leaders that ‘he won’.

Everyone is too big to fail. Treasury Secretary Nominees are too important to disqualify simply because they can’t master Turbo-Tax, nor are they willing to pay their taxes. We give corporations money, then immediately tell them how they can spend it.

So maybe it is a good thing that Republicans can actually affect nothing, because when it collapses hopefully people will see that it is a failure of government to accomplish something our government was never intended to accomplish in the first place. Maybe then we can try to get out of the way of a truly free market and let it take care of itself.

The sooner government gets out of the business of nurse maid the sooner we can start to recover.

Maybe I am just noticing things now more than in years past, but there are some things that just absolutely cause my hair to stand on end when I hear them these days. I was driving to work this morning when an ad came on the radio for a politician running for office in Mississippi. They were pointing out the candidate was a born again Christian and knew how God took care of us. Well, so far so good. I am a born again Christian and I too believe that God takes care of us, maybe they should have left it alone right there, but not today. They went on to say how this wonderful candidate knew that government needed to take care of our needs as well.

That is when I came to the realization that screaming at the radio doesn’t seem to do any good at all. Where does anyone get the idea that the job of government is to take care of us? THEY WORK FOR US! They are not our parents or guardians, we tell them what to do. It is not their position to take care of us!

But, that is just My Arrogant Opinion.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio was back in the news last week. If you aren’t familiar with Sheriff Joe take a minute and visit the Maricopa County Arizona Sheriff’s Office web site. The Associated Press ran a hit piece on him and his work targeting illegal aliens in the area. The piece titled, “Arizona sheriff stirs furor with crackdown on illegals,” posted on Brietbart.com, takes a decidedly liberal slant on the enforcement of our laws, but I don’t suppose anyone is really surprised at that. Warner Toddy Huston gives a very insightful analysis of the article at Newsbusters.org with his piece entitled, “An Example of AP’s Bias in Favor of Illegal Immigration.”

I had heard about Sheriff Joe some months back on the radio when some talk show host was discussing crime and Sheriff Joe’s unique approach to maintaining his jail. I have often thought that we needed more people enforcing our laws like Joe, after all, if they can live better on the inside than the outside why should any criminal be concerned about getting locked up?

It should be something of a wakeup call to the liberals in office that with an approval rating of over 75%, people are liking what Joe has managed to accomplish as Sheriff of the 3rd largest county in the United States. People want to see inmates out doing hard labor, they want the punishment to actually make them think before committing more crimes in their back yards.

Why are we so concerned with the well being of the very criminals who have broken the rules of a civilized society. By breaking those rules, they have told us that they do not believe in them so why should we treat them with such deference? I think the main stream media needs to wake up and start seeing what the rest of us see, that our country is headed for trouble, and that trouble is of our own making. Let’s stop coddling criminals, there are plenty of things they can do to start repaying this society for their anti social behavior. Let’s take a page out of Joe’s playbook and start taking our cities and towns back.

But that’s just My Arrogant Opinion.

A mortgage crisis, people losing their homes, mortgage banks going under. Something must be done! Yeah, the people who received home loans they couldn’t afford need to lose their house. The mortgage banker who bought those loans knew they were buying shaky assets when they bought them, they need to take the loss as well.

We live in a free country, free to succeed, free to fail. That is what makes the country and the economy grow. We have to take responsibility for our own actions and stop crying for the government to bail us out when we make a mistake. Where is the personal responsibility? Where is the moral fortitude? When did it become my responsibility to make your house note?

When the government steps in to bail out these bad loans, we are simply reinforcing this idea that no one needs to take responsibility for their actions. Don’t worry about it, the government will bail you out, after all, they have money printing machines, they can just print some more. Funny how the government can see the free market work when it comes to the money supply, but doesn’t seem to believe it works in the marketplace in general. We carefully control the money supply to prevent a surplus because that will lead to inflation, but we can’t leave the market alone to balance itself.

Sure, that means that some will fail. The problem is that in this country we have fostered an environment where little Johnny can’t fail because we are no longer keeping score. When it is impossible to fail, it becomes impossible to win as well and that is when we all fail.
