Why is it that common sense has become so uncommon in our society these days? It seems as if we need a new moniker for it since it has become so rare.
I would think that it would go without saying that when there is more of something, the price would be less than if it were rare. Take diamonds for instance. If you had to clean them up out of your yard in order to mow the grass, they would be a nuisance, and you would want to be rid of them. As it is, they are rare, and thus expensive to purchase.
Oil is no different. Well in some ways it is since we need oil to maintain our economy and way of life. The same principle applies though. If you had to wade through it to get to your car each morning, it would be cheap. It isn’t. Unfortunately, we have put up barriers to getting the oil that is available to us, therefore creating a shortage in our own backyard. The price understandably rises. We have to pay the price in a world market for a commodity that we are sitting on in our own backyard.
If, and I said if, we would make the determination that we were going to use the resources that God has provided us, and start making the move towards actually removing barriers and restrictions, the price would start to drop. The supply could be seen to be getting larger.
We have the technology to do it safely, and cleanly. The question is, are we going to continue to listen to green bullies and snake oil peddlers who tell us that we have no right to use our own resources? We have China, Viet Nam, and other third rate world powers preparing to drill for our oil, off our coast lines right now, while congress sits on their thumbs and twirls about trying to figure out which way the wind is going to blow.
We don’t need to stop looking for alternatives, it is our ingenuity that has made our nation great. We will find new fuels and technologies to run our nation, but it won’t happen if we are all sitting on the side of the road unable to buy enough gasoline to make it to work.
President Bush made a significant first step yesterday, but nothing can be accomplished if Congress doesn’t get off their collective ass and start removing the barriers to progress. Give them a call, I’m sure they would love to hear from you.
But that’s just My Arrogant Opinion.
