Cap and Trade – A Politician’s Response

by Unca Jake on July 3, 2009

Cap and Trade. It passed the Congress and will be heading for the Senate. I am proud to say that my Congressman, Marion Berry (D) Arkansas, voted against the bill. Standing with 43 other Democrats in opposition to the will of Nancy Pelosi. Thanks Congressman Berry!

After the bill passed the House, I started calling and emailing my Senators, Lincoln and Pryor, to get their positions on this proposal. One of Lincoln’s staffers called me a couple of days after I emailed her to get my position as Senator has not made up her mind on the issue yet. Funny how they can take so long to make up their mind when that is what we are paying them for, to be on top of these issues, but I digress.

Senator Pryor elected to email me a response to my queries which I am posting here

Dear Mr. Albers,

Thank you for contacting me regarding climate change legislation. I appreciate hearing from you and learning your perspective on this issue.

For the past five years I have met with concerned citizens, business leaders, environmental groups and members of the agricultural community from Arkansas and across the nation. These constituents and organizations have made it clear that appropriate climate change legislation must strike the difficult balance of reducing harmful emissions without constraining economic growth. The abundance of legislative proposals in Congress illustrates the many approaches people believe to be the best way to achieve this common good. These approaches include creating a “cap and trade” system to limit nationwide emissions, providing tax incentives for developing and deploying technologies that decrease greenhouse gases, and promoting alternative fuel and energy sources.

Building upon the initiatives already created by Congress, I believe that we stand poised to take significant strides to moderate the effects of climate change. A successful strategy will require the development of new technology to reduce and capture emissions, provide for greater energy efficiencies, and avoid unnecessary energy expenditures. Additionally, I believe alternative fuels and renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar power, will aide in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. These alternative technologies, fuels, and energy sources also have the potential to break our dependence on foreign oil while creating economic opportunities for individuals and businesses as America moves to a cleaner and healthier environment. I will work diligently to address this issue and will be sure to keep your thoughts in mind as the climate change debate continues in the Senate.

Again, thank you for contacting me. I value your input. Please do not hesitate to contact me or my office regarding this or any other matter of concern to you.

Sincerely,

Mark Pryor

United States Senate

I am personally very disappointed in Senator Pryor. He has evidently succumbed to the junk science that is global warming. It is sad to realize that the people we have elected to office so often legislate for the sake of legislating, even when it would be best to just not do anything.

Congress Makes Plans for Open Season on Pets

by Unca Jake on June 26, 2009

Dateline Washington, June 26, 2009 Congress today has conducted a test vote for Cap and Trade, with the actual vote to take place later today. The bill currently before the House will effectively declare open season on house pets. With the threat of Global Warming looming over the Earth, BO – The President, says something drastic must be done!

This bill, will allow people to kill, read CAP, their neighbor’s pet and TRADE the carcass in on Carbon Tax Credits. At the present time it is uncertain what the actual dollar amount will be per pet mailed to Washington as it will be on a sliding scale with large active dogs being worth more than lazy kittens because of their potential for Carbon Dioxide release into the Atmosphere. It should be known that although aquariums will be on the bottom of the scale they will still be eligible for Carbon Tax Credits.

Not only will the neighbor’s pets be eligible, but road kill, hunted game animals, and animals trapped or poisoned at the home will all provide the diligent collector with plenty of Tax Credits so that BO’s – The President dream of tax reductions for everyone except the Uber Rich will become a reality. Hunters are already planning excursions to the artic for baby seal hunts, polar bear hunts, as well as reindeer and caribou. Conservative estimates indicate that within 10 years, the entire body of carbon emmiting animals could be eliminated above the Artic Circle, allowing it to return to its pristine state never before known.

While not eligible for full credits, abortion clinics will be able to claim partial carbon credits for each fetus successfully aborted. This will generate in the neighborhood of $215 billion dollars annually in tax credits. Hospitals will be able to claim a 1/8 credit for patients who die in surgery or through complications while the attending physician will also be able to claim 1/8 credit. The granting of partial credits only is to ensure that the doctors and hospitals continue to do everything within their power to keep patients alive.

While currently not enjoyed by many city dwellers, hunting is expected to grow in popularity as people become aware of the tremendous amount of dollars available to successful hunters. In the South alone, it is expected to provide upwards of $600 billion annually for the next 5-7 years and then start tapering off as wildlife counts start to dwindle. While not as lucrative, rat hunting in the major urban areas is expected to be a true growth industry for at least 10 years as more people get into the sport.

In a related story, legislation to strip Americans of their right to bear arms is being put on the slow track as thoughts are being bandied about in Washington on issuing permits to everyone who isn’t in jail at this current time.

A new day is dawning in America

Will We Receive Insurance Vouchers Mr. President?

June 23, 2009

Health Care Reform. Oh let’s not call it what it is, ie; Socialized Health Care. BO – The President wouldn’t like it, or maybe I should say he doesn’t like it, and has said so.

Isn’t having the government run the health care system and telling us that they are not going to take away our choice somewhat similar to Hitler telling Chamberlain that he had no desires on Europe? In other words a bald faced lie?

How’s that Hope and Change thing workin’ for you?

June 17, 2009

I hope I will still have a job by the time Obama gets out of office….ooops too late for that one, I lost my job on The One’s 100th day in office. Currently I’m working as a temp, but the pay is nowhere near what I was making in the BO era. (Before Obama). So I guess you could say that my Hope turned into Change. He never said change would be good.

Where has our righteous indignation gone?

June 16, 2009

Was it only a year ago when gas prices were reaching all-time record highs? Oil futures had gone through the roof to the point that people weren’t sure anymore if oil even had a future. It was about to price itself out of existance. Not really, of course, but people were seriously looking for alternatives and for solutions to the ‘crisis’.

Rush Has Gotten it all Wrong

Normally I stream Rush Limbaugh at my desk, actually I listen to Glenn Beck first then follow it up with Rush. Since the election though, I haven’t been listening to nearly as much as I normally do because the news is just too depressing. Every day there seems to be a new townhall meeting [...]
